Removing GPS's

This should only be performed if the GPS's have to be sent into Watts Innovations for repair.

Ensure to exercise extreme care when working on the PRISM - you will be accessing very fragile parts of the drone that can be easily damaged.

Tools required:

  • M2.5 Hex Driver

  • M2 Hex Driver

  • Tweezers (optional)

Steps:

1. Loosen the 4 M3 socket head bolts circled in red in the photos below, perform this on each side of the drone.

2. Remove the top two 12mm carbon fiber payload rails and the battery receptacle.

  1. Loosen the bolts circled in red below on both sides of the aircraft and remove the carbon fiber 12mm payload tubes as well as any underslung payload/payload mount.

  1. Remove the 4 bolts circled in red on each side of the aircraft. Remove the metal payload mounts.

  1. Turn the canopy knobs 90 degrees from their locked position.

  1. Pick up the canopy and gentle lean it on its side. There are 2 fans in the canopy itself that are plugged into the top PCB; be careful not to pull on those wires.

  2. Carefully press on the tab located on the front of the connectors circled in red below and gently pull up to remove them from the PCB.

  1. Once the connectors are unplugged, use a 2mm hex driver and remove the 4 button head screws circled in red below. Perform this on each side of the aircraft.

  1. Once the GPS assemblies are removed, carefully route each GPS cable out of the frame. Sometimes it is easiest to pull up on the rubber grommet with tweezers, unthread the wire from the grommet and then remove the wire from the frame of the aircraft.
