Using the PRISM External Data A Cable

  • Simply plug the External Data A Cable into the rear of the aircraft's External Data Output connector. This connector is capable of outputting 5V, SBUS, RX/TX from Serial 2 (Telemetry 2), and RX2/TX2 from Serial 4 (GPS2) from the Cube. Simply plug in and twist the connector lock so that it is properly secured.

  • It is recommended to plug in these cables WITH THE MAIN POWER TURNED OFF. This will ensure that a misaligned cable or pin doesn't damage the system when plugging in.

  • Be sure to ensure that these power cables are properly secured so that they do not contact either the top or bottom propellers during flight.

Connecting the PRISM External Data A Cable to a Device, How Does it Work?

When a user plugs in the External Data A Cable, this now provides a waterproof and dustproof connection for the ability to connect a peripheral device straight into the Cube flight controller. This is how many gimbals and cameras will be controlled during flight.

This particular connector outputs three different signals:

  • SBUS OUT: This is the SBUS OUT pin straight out of the cube. This means that if you connect a device to this pin that is SBus controlled, this device can now be controlled via the SBus signal that is coming directly out of the Cube flight controller. Note, this connector also has 5V+ and Ground populated, making it ideal for powering any sort of peripheral device that operates on 5V. Recommended maximum amperage: 1.5A.

  • RX/TX: This label is connected directly to the Cube's Telemetry 2 (Serial 2) RX & TX Port. This means that any companion computer, gimbal, or camera can be connected to these pins. Most commonly, these devices will communicate via Mavlink protocol. Note: This serial connection is shared with the internal Telem2 (Serial 2) pin under the canopy, meaning only one device can be plugged in at a time on this port!

  • RX2/TX2: This label is connected directly to the Cube's GPS2 (Serial 4) RX & TX Port. This means that any companion computer, gimbal, or camera can be connected to these pins. Most commonly, these devices will communicate via Mavlink protocol. Note: This serial connection is shared with the internal GPS2 (Serial 4) pin under the canopy, meaning only one device can be plugged in at a time on this port!
