Installing & Removing Payloads

This page provides instructions for installing and removing payloads on the 12mm rail system.

Bottom Payload Rail System

Follow the steps below for instructions to install and remove payloads on the bottom 12mm rail system:

Installing a Payload

  1. To install a payload to the bottom 12mm rail system, the 12mm carbon fiber rails must first be removed. Begin by locating the work area which is on the left and right side of the aircraft (outlined in blue). Continue following the instructions below.

  1. To remove the 12mm carbon fiber rails, simply loosen the four (4) M3 bolts on the payload rail mount. Perform this for both sides.

  1. Once these rails are loose, remove the two (2) payload rails.

  1. Now, a new payload (such as a REEL, gimbal, camera system, isolation damper, or other) can be installed. For this, orient the payload receptacle accordingly to ensure it will be installed in the right direction.

  1. Next, align the mounts on the payload receptacle with the payload rail mounts.

  1. Lastly, slide both rails through the payload rail mounts and payload receptacle mounts. Ensure both rails are centered and evenly parallel to each other and re-tighten the four (4) M3 bolts after applying medium-strength thread locker to each bolt. Repeat this step for all four (4) bolts on the payload receptacle. This ensures the payload receptacle is securely mounted to the bottom 12mm rail system.

WARNING: These bolts must be secured before flight!

Removing a Payload

  1. To remove payloads from the 12mm rail system, follow these 7 steps in the reverse order.

Top Payload Rail System

Follow the steps below for instructions to install and remove batteries as payloads on the battery payload receptacle on the top 12mm rail system:

Installing a Battery Payload

  1. To install battery payloads to the top battery payload receptacle mounted to the 12mm rail system, both batteries must each be pre-configured with PRISM Sky Battery Trays.

  1. Once both batteries are configured with PRISM Sky Battery Trays, install one battery at a time and position yourself towards the rear of the aircraft.

  1. From here, align the dovetail battery tray with one of the dovetail battery receptacles ensuring that the battery leads are facing the power distribution plugs emerging from the side of the main aircraft body.

  2. Once aligned, slide the battery with the previously installed tray into the battery tray receptacle on the top of the aircraft. The locking pin should snap into place once the battery trays are properly inserted. This will ensure the battery tray is properly secured. Test the battery tray by pulling forcefully on the battery to ensure it is properly secured.

WARNING: Some batteries may be supplied with a long power lead wire. Users must ensure that this slack is taken up by the supplied velcro straps to ensure that the battery wires do not become caught in the rear propellers during flight!

Removing a Battery Payload

  1. To remove a battery payload previously installed, first unplug both power supplies to the aircraft.

  1. Unmount one battery at a time by placing one hand on top of the battery while using the other to pull out and away from the aircraft on the black battery release knob located at the rear of the aircraft to release the battery from the battery payload receptacle. With the release knob in the open position with one hand, using the other hand placed on top of the battery carefully push the battery toward the front of the aircraft for complete removal. Repeat for both batteries.
