Pairing a new Echosky to PRISM Air Unit

This will walk you through step-by-step to pair a new Echosky to an existing PRISM.

Preparing the aircraft

  • To remove the bottom canopy you can either refer to page 108 in the aircraft manual, or follow along with the instructions below.

  • First you must remove the payload rails from the aircraft. Simply loosen the four bolts (8 on each side, 16 total) using an m2.5 hex driver. Slide the payload rails out of the payload mounts and remove the battery receptacle and any bottom mounted payload mounts. The payload mounts themselves must also be removed, there are two screws per mount, four per side of the aircraft. Remove all eight screws and the mounts can be removed. (Fig 1 and 2.)

  • There are 4 plastic turn knobs on the bottom of the aircraft securing the canopy to PRISM. With your fingers, simply rotate the knobs 90° away from the canopy. (Fig 3.)

  • Carefully remove the bottom canopy only, the top canopy can remain installed. Simply pull the bottom canopy away from the aircraft and carefully unplug the fans. Failure to do so could cause stress to the PCB that the fans are plugged into and damage the aircraft. Take note (or a photo) of where the fans are plugged into for reassembly of the aircraft.

Pairing the Echosky to PRISM

  • Power on the aircraft and the new Echosky mobile. NOTE: The arms should be in the folded/travel position so that the motors do not receive power during this step. This is purely for safety.

  • Open up WattsQGC on the Echosky Mobile. Once open, enter the advanced menu by tapping the Fly menu (paper airplane button) 5 times quickly. Click “OK/Accept” when prompted.

  • Navigate to the General Settings menu by clicking on the Watts Innovations Gear button on the top left and scroll down to the “Radio Member” page.

  • Click on the “Pair” button on the Echosky (Fig 2). Using a small tool (such as an m1.5 hex driver) press and hold the “Pairing” button on the air unit installed in the aircraft. (Fig 1). The aircraft will then begin pairing with the GCS. Once complete the LED should illuminate GREEN, The pairing process is now complete.

  • While you are still in the "Radio Member" page, you may wish to calibrate the sticks and gimbals again inside of the EchoSky Mobile radio. NOTE: This is not required, purely optional.

  • Click on the Fly menu again 5 times to return to the Basic Menu.

  • To confirm that the pairing process was successful, go to the settings menu (gear logo to the right of the Watts logo) and click on PRISM on the left. Ensure that the aircraft is connected via “Connection status” as well as flight time of the aircraft (Fig 2). NOTE: It is normal to not see Propulsion ID at this point if the aircraft is powered with the arms folded in.

Reassembling the aircraft for flight

  • After successfully pairing the new Echosky to PRISM, you must complete the same initial steps, but in reverse order.

  • Plug in the fans on the bottom of the aircraft. Refer to the photo or note taken when removing the canopy to understand where they need to be plugged in.

  • Hold the bottom canopy up to the aircraft and one by one; turn each canopy knob until it snaps into place, firmly holding the bottom canopy onto the aircraft. (Fig 1.)

  • Reinstall the payload mounts with the four bolts. Please use blue 243 loctite on these bolts and tighten them to 25.67 in-lbs. (Fig 2.)

  • Lay the battery tray receptacle on the top canopy and line up the 12mm rails with the payload mounts. Guide the 12mm rails through the mounts and through the battery tray receptacles. Ensure the 12mm rails are centered, and then tighten down the 3mm bolts to 7 in-lbs. Repeat the same process for any bottom mounted payloads.

  • The aircraft is now ready to be flown!
