FAQ

This pages answers the frequently asked questions related to Remote ID and PRISM Sky.

If I purchased and received my aircraft before the date in which the DOC for PRISM Sky was accepted and listed on the FAA DOC portal (February 14th, 2023) but has a 4 digit number on the front left arm socket, can I add those 4 digits as the last 4 digits of the remote ID serial number convention as described in Serial Numbers & Labeling or in the Flight Manual to claim my aircraft as Remote ID compliant under the FAA accepted DOC for PRISM Sky?

No, all aircraft shipped prior to February 14th, 2023 are NOT standard remote ID compliant under our FAA accepted DOC for PRISM Sky therefore, can only obtain compliance through retrofitting your aircraft by purchasing a FAA accepted Broadcast Module. If you received your aircraft prior to February 14th, 2023 and would like to learn more about how your aircraft can become standard Remote ID compliant under our accepted DOC for PRISM Sky please contact Watts Innovations. Remote ID on any PRISM Sky can only and must only be enabled by Watts Innovations. To date, the only PRISM Sky aircraft produced with standard remote ID under our accepted DOC are 1785C000000006500 - 1785C000000007999. All remaining serial numbers (i.e. 1785C000000006000 - 1785C000000006499) have not yet been produced, therefore are not standard remote ID compliant under our accepted DOC for PRISM Sky.

What do I need to know if I purchased a PRISM Sky before the compliance date for manufacturers?

If you purchased a PRISM Sky before December 16th, 2022, you do not need to comply with Remote ID until September 16th, 2023. If you purchased a PRISM Sky before December 16th, 2022, you will be contacted prior to the September 16th, 2023 compliance date with instructions for enabling Remote ID on your PRISM Sky.

If I purchased a PRISM Sky before December 16th, 2022, do I have to upgrade to the RID firmware that has been released that supports FAA Remote ID functionality?

Yes

Can I disable Remote ID or can I downgrade the firmware to one that does not support Remote ID?

No

How to check if the Remote ID functionality is working properly?

Using the Remote ID status indicator located in the Watts AMC flight application user interface (UI).

Will Remote ID reduce flight time?

No

Where can I find out more information about the Remote ID requirement?
What will happen if the Remote ID system malfunctions or fails during flight?

PRISM Sky monitors the Remote ID system functionality from powering on to shutdown. If the Remote ID system malfunctions or has a failure, the Remote ID status indicator will change from green to red inside the Watts AMC UI to inform the operator indicating the operator of the Remote ID malfunction or failure. Under the part 89 rule for operators, if the RIDS malfunctions or fails during flight the person manipulating the flight controls must land it as soon as safely possible until the RIDS recovers.

If I am ordering a drone from outside the USA, will my aircraft ship with Remote ID enabled?

No. If you are outside of the USA and you order a drone directly from Watts Innovations, Remote ID will not be enabled upon shipping.
