How Remote ID Works

This page outlines Watts Innovations implementation of Standard Remote ID for PRISM Lite.

Remote ID is the ability of a drone in flight to provide identification and location information that can be received by other parties.

Three ways pilots can meet the Remote ID requirement:

PRISM Lite utilizes Standard Remote ID (built-in) for incorporating Remote ID information into its system. The method involves embedding the Remote ID information into Bluetooth Advertisements, which can be detected by any device that scans for nearby Bluetooth Advertisements. This means that anyone within range of the drone will be able to access the drone's Remote ID information.

Remote ID Data Broadcasted

PRISM Lite transmits the essential ID information, the drone's location, and system messages from the ground control station (GCS) in each Bluetooth Advertisement. The Remote ID agent broadcasts the following information from takeoff to shutdown:

  • UA Type

  • UA Serial Number

  • UA Operational Status (On Ground, Airborne, Emergency)

  • UA Latitude, Longitude & Altitude

  • UA Velocity, Speed & Direction)

  • UA Time mark

  • Operator Location Type (Dynamic)

  • Operator Latitude, Longitude & Elevation

  • Operator Time mark

Scope of Compliance

WARNING: The FAA-accepted Declaration of Compliance (DOC) for Watts Innovations PRISM Lite, in its current form, is reflective only in the configurations listed below. Changing any critical components (i.e. Rx/Tx, Software/Firmware, Location Source, Location Type, Broadcast Method, FCC Identifier) of the tested and currently accepted Remote ID configuration would make the Remote ID system non-compliant and out of the manufacturers specifications. *Remote ID for PRISM Lite can only be enabled by the manufacturer (e.g. Watts Innovations Inc).
