Changing basic radio settings
This page provides instructions for changing DoodleLabs radio settings (i.e. Channel, Bandwidth, etc) via the UI.
The instructions below apply to both the 2.4Ghz DoodleLabs Embedded Radio (KONTACT + PRISM Sky) and the 2.4Ghz DoodleLabs External Radio.
NOTE: Through navigating the UI you will notice that some of the pages and settings can be access in various methods so feel free to do what best works for you. However, some of the methods do not function properly such as going through the Simple Configuration>Simple Configuration page therefore we are showing only the methods that work and apply the settings appropriately
Instructions
WARNING: To prevent the radios from miscommunicating, when changing any settings on one radio, the same settings must also be changed on the other in order to properly communicate therefore it is important when connecting wirelessly to the aircraft (i.e through the ground radios) you must change, save and apply the air unit radio settings first, before the ground radio. Once the settings have been applied on the air unit radio you may proceed changing the settings on the ground unit radio to match. If you fail to do so you will be required to connect to the aircraft via ethernet to change the settings following the same methods for the radios to communicate again. Again, remember to always change the air unit radio settings first before the ground radio.
After following the instructions for Accessing the User Interface (UI) and Changing the SSID you should be familiar with accessing and navigating the UI. With the UI for both the ground and air unit radio open in your browser window, scroll down to the Wireless section and click on the assigned SSID to open the Device Configuration.
Under the General Setup page, you can change basic settings such as enabling/disabling Transmit Power Control, Operating Frequency (i.e. Mode, Channel and Bandwidth) and Transmit Power.
PRO-TIP: Always SAVE & APPLY settings on the air unit radio before the ground radio to prevent miscommunication or to prevent having to access the air unit radio separately via Ethernet.
CAUTION: DO NOT change the Mode under Operating Frequency and DO NOT change any of these settings without experience or knowledge of doing so. We only recommend changing the Channel and Bandwidth on a case by case basis such as when there is a lot of interference in a crowded operating environment.
NOTE: Changing the Channel or Bandwidth can assist with improving video quality and range depending on your operating environment. If the area you are operating in has a lot of intereferance, consider increasing your bandwith.
WARNING: Avoid using Channel 1 to prevent interfering with the Remote ID system as the default, hard coded Channel for the Remote ID system is set to Channel 1.
After changing the desired settings, scroll down and click SAVE & APPLY and wait ~60 seconds (1 minute) for the settings to be applied before closing the web browser.
Repeat for the ground unit radio.
PRO-TIP: Use the Spectrum Analyzer Tool to determine the best channel to select based on your operating environment.
